Pumpkin Pizza Bombs
These pumpkin-shaped pizza bombs are made for the Halloween snack table. Wrapped in golden dough, filled with gooey mozzarella from right here in Ontario and brushed with local butter before baking, they’re an easy, cheesy fall appetizer with plenty of pizza flavour hiding inside.
Ingredients
Pizza Bombs
Marinara Dip
Instructions
- StepPreheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet or oven-safe baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter.
- StepIn a medium bowl, combine the mozzarella cheese, ham, black olives and cream cheese. Mix until evenly combined.
- StepRoll the pizza dough into a rectangle if needed and cut it into 6 equal squares. Flatten each square slightly with your hands.
- StepSpoon marinara and about ⅓ cup of the filling into the centre of each dough square. Bring the edges together and pinch tightly to seal, forming a smooth ball. Place each ball seam-side down.
- StepCut four long pieces of butcher's twine for each pizza bomb. Arrange the strings in a crisscross pattern, place the dough ball in the center, and gently tie the strings around it to create pumpkin-like ridges. Tie the twine just snug enough to create the pumpkin shape while allowing the dough room to rise during baking.
- StepBrush each pizza bomb generously with the melted butter.
- StepBake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pizza bombs are puffed and deep golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes, then carefully snip and remove the butcher's twine.
- StepInsert a pretzel stick into the top of each pizza bomb to create the stem. Add a fresh basil leaf beside the pretzel for the finishing touch.
- StepServe warm with the warm marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
