Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

  1. Step
    In a bowl, mix together the cocoa, icing sugar, chocolate and cornstarch.
  2. Step
    Transfer the mixture to an airtight container. Store for up to 3 months.

Classic Hot Chocolate

  1. Step
    Pour the milk into a medium saucepan set over medium heat.
  2. Step
    Heat milk until tiny bubbles begin to form around the edges (do not boil). Whisk in the hot chocolate mixture until fully incorporated and smooth.
  3. Step
    Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for about 30 seconds, whisking occasionally.
  4. Step
    Remove from the heat and pour into a large mug. Top with marshmallows and serve immediately.

Spiced Hot Chocolate

  1. Step
    Pour milk into a medium pot set over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick and orange zest. Bring the mixture to just below a simmer. There should be bubbles forming around the edges (do not boil). Turn the stove to low and let simmer for 20 seconds.
  2. Step
    Whisk in the hot chocolate mixture until it is fully incorporated and smooth. Bring back to a simmer and cook for 30 seconds. Turn off the heat, remove the cinnamon stick and orange zest. Pour into two large mugs.
  3. Step
    Serve with a cinnamon stick and top with marshmallows and serve.
