Thanksgiving Potatoes
These rich, creamy scalloped potatoes belong on the Thanksgiving table. Thinly sliced potatoes are layered with local butter, cream, white cheddar and Parmesan from right here in Ontario, then baked until tender, golden and bubbling. It’s a comforting, crowd-pleasing holiday side dish that will have everyone reaching for seconds.

- StepPreheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- StepGrease a 9 × 13-inch (23 × 33 cm) baking dish with 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of the softened butter.
- StepSlice the peeled potatoes into ⅛-inch (3 mm) thick rounds using a sharp knife or mandoline.
- StepIn a small bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, salt and black pepper.
- StepArrange one-third of the potato slices in an even layer in the prepared baking dish. Spoon over one-third of the cream mixture.
- StepSprinkle with one-third of the shredded white cheddar cheese or mozzarella cheese.
- StepRepeat the layers two more times until all the potatoes, cream mixture and cheese are used.
- StepDot the top with the remaining 2 tablespoons (30 mL) softened butter.
- StepSprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
- StepCover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes.
- StepRemove the foil and continue baking for 20–25 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender and the top is golden brown and bubbling.
- StepLet the potatoes rest for 10 minutes before serving. This helps the sauce thicken and makes serving easier.
