Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream

    In a large bowl, add sugar, cocoa powder, and maple syrup.

    In a glass measuring cup or microwave safe bowl, heat milk until steaming, in 30 second intervals. Then pour over sugar mixture and whisk until sugar has dissolved. Whisk in whipping cream and vanilla. Place bowl in refrigerator for about 2 hours until very cold.

    Whisk mixture and pour into a shallow 8-inch (20 cm) metal baking pan or loaf pan and freeze for at least 8 hours or until completely frozen.

    Alternatively, pour into ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions to freeze ice cream.

    Scoop as is or transfer chunks of ice cream into food processor and pulse until smooth and serve.

MAKE THE FLAVOUR YOUR OWN

Stir in your favourite additions like mini chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, chopped nuts or toffee bits into your ice cream before it freezes fully. You can also just sprinkle your ice cream with any of your favourite toppings like fresh local fruit or sauces!
