• 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup quick rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp Ontario butter, cold
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ cups Ontario buttermilk

  • Sift the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  • Crumble in cold butter to resemble mealy texture.
  • Whisk eggs and buttermilk together.
  • Pour liquid into dry ingredients.
  • Mix together to form a doughy ball.
  • Knead on floured surface for 2 minutes.
  • Shape dough in round, 8” ball.
  • Cut large ‘X’ into dough.
  • Bake for 45 minutes in 350°F (177°C) oven.
